Chapter 3 : Alex - Just a Little Tipsy
Alex had wandered away from the blackjack table when Lily started
to lose. Hell, she thought, if she had any sense, she’d just
cut her losses and
jump the sexy guy next to her. The thought made her giggle.
Hell, *I*
should have just jumped him.
The glass in her hand was empty. Well, shit, she thought
... now
that she wasn’t sitting with Lily, she was going to have to buy her
own
drinks. That sucked. Not that she hadn’t already put quite
a buzz on --
she’d finished almost the entire bottle of wine, plus had a couple
of gin
fizzes at the blackjack table. Yep, she was probably drunk.
She’d regret it
in the morning, but for now, she felt glorious.
Lost in her own thought, she didn’t realize she where she was
walking until she ran straight into a brick wall. “Oooomph!”
she muttered.
No, wait, it wasn’t a brick wall. It was a person ... a
man ... oh,
wow, a *gorgeous* man, she realized, looking up. He had dark
hair, green
eyes, a goatee, and was looking at her with some amusement. “I’m
sorry,”
he said in a deep voice. “I wasn’t looking where I was going.”
A southern
drawl ... how unbelievably sexy.
“That’s okay,” she said, managing to sound reasonably sober, to
her
own surprise. “But I think you should buy me a drink.”
He raised his eyebrows in surprise, then grinned. “Anything
for a
beautiful lady,” he replied, offering his arm gallantly.
Alex accepted, nearly floating. She’d never been with a
man quite
this beautiful ... this was going to be fun.
When they reached the bar, she frowned. It was way too crowded
...
she couldn’t see any seats available. Not the kind of place she
really
wanted to be. “Hey ... why don’t you just buy me a drink, and
we can walk
around out here?” she suggested.
He nodded. “Good thinking.” He flagged down a waitress
and
ordered for them.
When he turned away to talk to the waitress, Alex took the
opportunity to study him from the back. Damn, but he was built
like a brick
shithouse ... his shoulders were about a mile wide, and his ass was,
well,
perfect, in the tight jeans he wore. Of all the people to run
into, she thought
with a sigh, I get the best one.
“So,” he said, turning back to her, “what’s your name?”
“Me?” she said stupidly. No, the other girl he’s with, she
told
herself. “I’m Alex.”
“Kevin ...”
“Well, Kevin, I’m glad I ran into you,” Alex said, giggling.
“Me, too,” he replied, chuckling more at her than at whatever
joke
she seemed to have made.
Their drinks came, and they gratefully escaped the crowded bar.
They made a little bit of small talk -- Alex tried to hold an intelligent
conversation, but she’d already had too much alcohol to do much more
than
just stare at him ... her brain had kicked into neutral. She
finally decided to
steer them towards the gift shop ... she’d been meaning to look in
there,
anyway.
Once in the gift shop, Alex noticed a small corner featuring novelty
and joke items. “Oh, that stuff looks like fun,” she said.
As she read dirty keychains, giggling, Kevin picked up a small
package. Suddenly, she noticed him grinning. “Ever seen
these?”
She looked at what he held. A pair of dice ... “Dirty Dice,”
according to the package. She looked at them closer ... the sides
of the dice
that were facing out read “Lick” and “Below Waist.” “Oh, do those
look
like ... fun,” she said, imagining what it would be like to lick him
below the
waist. That set off another round of giggles. “Wanna play?”
Even in her drunken state, she shocked herself. Looking
up, she saw
shock fade to amusement in his eyes. “I’m game if you are,” he
drawled.
Alex thought about it for a minute. Everything that told
her not to,
though, seemed to be chased off by the alcohol bouncing around in her
head. “Absolutely,” she said in her sexiest voice. “You
have a room here?”
“Uh-huh ...” Taking her arm gallantly again, Kevin led her
up to the
cash register, to pay for the dice. Alex felt her pulse racing
... it was bound
to be an enlightening night.
